The Joys of Being a Mother

Well, after a discussion last week Todd and I decided it is time to wean Allie off the milk wagon (aka ME) I weighed myself fully clothed and with wet hair right after breakfast and the scale said 89 lbs. I am afraid Allie is taking all my nutrition. The hard part is she is still waking up every 2 hours to eat at night and I really don't want to have to make bottles in the night. Any suggestions? I would try just letting her cry herself back to sleep, but then it keeps Todd up and he isn't a very happy camper. My goal was to feed her till her year birthday so at least I got close!

You know, by looking at pictures of you I thought you looked pretty thin. This is what I did - (because at camp Andrew was waking up every 1 1/2 hours at night and it was killing me having to go to the waterfront every day and work) we basically sucked it up and let him cry. I found that feeding him as much baby cereal as he would eat at night helped him sleep longer. But the first night he cried for 2 hours. I wanted to get him but Dave made me stay in bed. The next night was 30 minutes. the next night was 10 minutes. and ever since then he goes to sleep within 3 minutes of laying him down and has slept through the night ever since. Not saying you have to do this exactly, but it worked for us!

I can't imagine having to wake up that often to nurse. I'd go nuts. We're lucky, right now Jackson will go 4-5 hours between feedings at night so I only wake up like 1 during the night. But during the day he eats every 1 1/2 - 2 hours. It's exhausting. I wish you all the luck.

Okay, Heather seriously you have always been skinny, but 89 pounds is so small. I think that stopping breastfeeding is a great idea. Cade didn't sleep through the night until I stopped breastfeeding. I stopped cold turkey with Cade. I tried to ease him down to a few feedings and it didn't work. He cried a lot, but after a few nights he slept a lot better. I don't know if that would work for her, but I have a couple more ideas...call me if you want them! Good luck!!

Tanya said when her kids did that she got up and gave them a drink from a cup. After doing that a few times, they decided they weren't going to get much and they started sleeping. It's worth a try.

My little gabe did the same thing to me. I didnt get that small but it was pretty bad. Luckily he made it to his year birthday....so I weaned him straight to whole milk. We do 8 oz at night before bed and 8 oz in the morning when he gets up. I was scared he wouldnt want to do this but he took it right away. We made the mistake one night of letting him have his bottle in bed with us so for a few nights he wanted to sleep in our bed....but now when he get s up in the morning I get him the bottle and we watch "georgie" (curious george).
Good Luck!

Girl, buy Todd ear plugs and let her cry. (not to sound insensitive...)
